Enroll Now

  • Now Accepting Applications for the '15/16 School Year

Kaleidoscope Charter School is a public charter school that is open to the public free of cost. Families wishing to enroll for the next school year must follow the enrollment process which is aligned with the Minnesota State Statutes regarding admission.

    Enrollment Process and Lottery

On the first business day of February, KCS will hold a lottery drawing for Kindergarten and any grade with more applications than open positions. To be entered into the lottery, families must submit an application by 3:30pm on the last business day of January. The application will be posted on the KCS website on the first business day in December. A separate application must be completed for each student applying for enrollment. Students who currently attend KCS do not need to reapply for the following school year.

Initial waitlists are established during the annual lottery process, and families do not retain their position from the previous year’s waitlist. Families on a current waitlist must also submit an enrollment application, as they are not automatically included in the next year’s lottery. Following the lottery applications are processed in the order they are received.

    Existing Families

As per Minnesota State Statute if a student has a sibling enrolled at KCS, they will receive a sibling preference. However, enrollment is not assumed for siblings. Siblings wishing to enroll at KCS must submit an enrollment application prior to the deadline. This includes siblings who will be incoming Kindergarten students.

    Mid-Year Enrollment

Enrollment during the school year will follow the order of the waitlist. In the event that a waitlist does not exist for a specific grade, mid-year enrollment will occur on a first-come, first served basis.

Questions about the enrollment process can be sent to admissions@kcsmn.org

  • A Reflective Summer

Posted by Brett Wedlund at 6/25/2015
As I write this, we are about a month into summer.  The kids have left the building for a few months to enjoy time with family and friends.  Staff members have spent time reflecting on the past school year and are already hard at work planning for next year.  As a leadership team, summer is a time that we are able to make changes to our programming to provide a better experience for our students.  After reflecting on the 2014/2015 school years, we have identified several projects and areas that we are focusing on.  I want to share a few of these projects with you now, and additional information will be shared as we get closer to the school year.
To improve the quality of lunches offered to our students, KCS will be working with a new caterer this fall.  In addition, after the great success of the trial breakfast program this spring, KCS will have a breakfast program in place at the start of the school year.
We noticed an increase in student behaviors during the second half of the school year.  To help facilitate a quality learning environment, KCS will be implementing a Comet Pride program this fall.  The Comet Pride program will focus on having expectations for students that are consistent throughout the building, and it will also teach these expectations in a way allows them to see how it impacts their learning.
We are also seeking ways to communicate more effectively with our parents.  We have moved to a new website provider and also now have a mobile app available for those of you who use Apple and Android devices.  In addition, we will continue to develop our social media as a way to communicate with families.  We encourage you to follow the Kaleidoscope Charter School Facebook page and the @TweetKCS Twitter account.
We hope that you are enjoying your summer and look forward to seeing you again soon!
